Hi everyone! In this short Minecraft blog post I want to share tips to help you improve your farm by covering the water so that you can walk easily over it and so that crops don’t fall into the water when you are harvesting.
Tip #1: putting trapdoors over water helps gather crops easier
Also pick something see through like these Acacia trapdoors to make it look nice.

Tip #2: putting slabs on the top part of the block
Instead of a trapdoor wooden (or stone) slabs can be used. Just make sure to put it on the top part of the block and the water should be fine below it. You can double check by breaking and re-installing because the slabs are not see-through so you do no see the water.
I personally prefer trapdoors instead of slabs due to the see-through effect. But slabs are much cheaper (3 planks for 6 slabs) while trapdoors take more resources (6 planks for 2 trapdoors).

Tip #3: putting Lily Pads on the water
Another option is to use Lily Pads. I like this option but not everyone can find Lily Pads easily in their Minecraft world – depending on which biome you have spawned in (they are found in the Swamp Biome). For example the Minecraft world I am playing in right now has no Lily Pads at all – I probably have to travel quite far to find them.
However, while pretty, they break rather easily, so some Minecraft players might find that frustrating.

Tip #4: using Glass Pane for the water block
Yet another interesting idea is to use Glass Pane. It creates a sort of a cross in the water block making it easy to walk over it while also keeping the water visible. Glass Pane is also quite easy to get in large quantities with 6 glass making 16 Glass Panes.
Make sure you use Glass Pane and not regular Glass which will destroy the water block.

Tip #5: using Stairs in 4 different directions
You can also use Stairs to cover the water. These can be places in 4 different directions:

The ability to place stairs in various ways also allows for interesting patterns.
Tip #6: Using Carpets
You can actually also use Carpets, but they are a little bit more difficult to place. You need to attach them to a carpet in the next block.
The good thing about using carpets are the many color options. The bad: harder to place & cannot see the water.

Tip #7: The new Scaffolding also works great to cover water
If you can find some Bamboo in your Minecraft World and since Scaffolding is now available in Minecraft we can use it to cover water blocks and make our farming life easier.
I like this option because:
- It’s see-through – we can see the water
- It’s cheap to make with Bamboo and 1 string from spiders
- It’s super easy to place in the water block
- It looks nice 🙂

Tip #8: Using Fences to cover the water
Yet another option is to place any wooden (or other) Fence in the water block. While it can look nice due to the many wood types / options you get a little bit of a bump up when you walk over it and some Minecraft players might find that annoying.

So there you go – many options / tips to help Minecraft players gather crops easier. I hope you liked my blog post and found these tips useful. Post in the comments which option you like the most and if you have any other Minecraft tips or suggestions.
