Hey Everyone! In this blog post I share how to convert coal into diamond armor in Minecraft. This means also that you don’t even need to dig in caves trying to find diamonds and can get all your diamond equipment guaranteed and repeatable this way.
I have prepared the below flowchart showing the 4 steps, but here are the bullet points with additional explanation text also:
4 Steps:
- You will need a lot of coal, but luckily it is VERY easy to find and gather coal. Especially if you can use a Fortune enchanted pickaxe you will get a lot more coal from the blocks that you find.
- Next you need to setup a Blast Furnace in a nearby village to make one of the villagers into an Armorer. To craft the Blast Furnace you need 5 iron ingots, 1 Furnace and 3 smooth stones (bake 3 cobblestones in a furnace 2 times – very easy). Tip: there must be a villager without a profession to take up the new Armorer. If they are all “busy” you can break one of their workstations to make them available. Something you don’t need very much like a Leather-worker can be converted into an Armorer / Armorsmith.
- Keep trading all your coal with the Armorer and receive Emeralds. Tip: if a Coal trade does not open up, break the workstation to make the villager available again and put it again until a Coal trade opens. As you keep trading with the Armorer he levels up and becomes a Master Armorer.
- Once you get the villager to the Master Armorer level he will open up Diamond Equipment trades. You can then trade all those Emeralds you got for the Coal into Diamond Armor (Helmet, Boots, Leggings, Chestplate). And the great thing is that they are also enchanted!
(you can click to enlarge the picture, it is a very large size)

More Tips:
- To have more options get several Armorers in your village.
- If there are not many villagers you can get them to breed and make more villagers.
- This also works for diamond weapons via a Weapon Smith,
- And Diamond tools via a Tool Smith.
I hope you found my Minecraft guide useful and will enjoy your new Diamond Armor pieces! 🙂
